One in five South Africans will develop cancer during his or her lifetime. That works out to more than 1,000,000 new cases annually, and more than 10,000 deaths. Epidemic increases are being seen in all types of skin cancer. In the majority of cases, the cause of skin cancer is exposure to the sun.

Traditionally, sun protection has been viewed as a personal matter. Public education efforts have focused on what individuals can do to protect themselves and their families from excessive sun exposure. But many believe it is time for action in a larger arena. We hope the tips below will provide information and ideas on how to make our community sun-safe.
